Yesterday,at work, I pumped milk for my 12 week old infant. It was placed in the freezer and had slightly froze when I removed it at the end of the day. This morning I realized that I had left it in my bag. When I checked it, it still had a slight chill (not cold) to it. I opened it to check for a smell or a sign of spoilage, but there were none. I immediately refrigerated it. Is it safe for me to still give it to my child.

Yes you can still use it.

Breastmilk can be stored for 10 hours at room temperature, this was less than room temperature. You can store breastmilk for 24 hours in a cooler with ice. This was somewhere in the middle I would say. It should be fine BUT taste it before you use it and use it today or throw it out; breastmilk tastes really bad if it is bad.

However if you have enough other milk I would just dump it.

This is my chart:

FRESH BREAST MILK
Deep freeze 0'f or less- 6+months
Refrigerator style freezer- 3-4 months
Refrigerator- 8 days
Room Temp.- 10 hours

THAWED BREAST MILK
Do not refreeze
Refrigerator- 24 hours
Room temp.- 1 hour

So I would say not to give it to him. Thawed milk was out at room temp. more than 1 hour. I hope I helped. Good luck!

No, not if it was left overnight. Even things that are frozen should be unthawed in the fridge if not used right away, not left out at room temp. I wouldn't risk it, throw it away and don't feed it to your child.

I wouldn't try it. Too much risk involved. I did this several times when I was still pumping. It is so aggravating, but does happen. I always kept formula on hand for those just in case "oops" moments.

Even if it seems to be OK, I wouldn't... It's not worth the risk!

Don't risk it. Kids deserve the best that you can give them.

No don't. If it were regular milk, would you drink it? Besides...you can always make more.
