My neice in India has asked me to get her a gameboy and a couple games to go with. My husband and I know little to nothing about handheld video games, so any help would be appreciated:

We checked at a few places and only see Gameboy Advance. Is this the only handheld "Gameboy" that's now available? I know there used to be just a regular Gameboy (no Advance in the name) - has that been discontinued? Normal price that we're seeing for the GA is about $79.99. I'm guessing that's the SRP, but just want to see if others have been able to find it for less, and where.

She's asked for a couple games as well - she asked for Pokemon, which I've had no trouble finding. There's like 3 or 4 diff.versions so I may get one or two of those. She's also asked for a game that she wasn't sure of the spelling, but it was like Bayba or Baybel or something like that. B-A-Y something....does anyone know of a Gameboy/Gameboy Advance Game along those lines?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Gameboy Advanced will play a lot of the older Gameboy games, though the newer games that are made specifically for the GBA are much better quality. The newer SP model of the Gameboy Advanced has a back-light on the screen so you could play it in the dark if you wanted to. Not sure of the game that starts with Bay...unless it is Beyblades. Here is a link to a UK site that sells this game:

The original Gameboy has been discontinued and if you really wanted to find one, you might be able to get a used one off of E-bay, or Yahoo Auctions. $79.00 sounds about right for a Gameboy Advanced SP. Good luck.

The original Gameboy came out in the late 1980's and has since been discontinued. That handheld has spawned many an offspring - Gameboy Advance being one of them.
You may con cider going to a used video game store or searching eBay for the original.
I doubt any Pokemon games would be on the original though as it was phased out before Pokemon came into play.
Your best bet is to do with the Gameboy Advance or even Nintendo DS.
I'm sorry but I don't know which game you are referring to.
Good luck!

Well, the Gameboy Advance is the most...advanced Game Boy there is. Yeah, kinda lame on Ninty's part, and but they also called their new console "Wii." There're two versions of the GBA....the original, and the GBA SP. Oh, and the micro. The GBA is the cheapest, but the SP is smaller and has a back-lit screen. I'm not knowledgeable about India, but the GBA takes batteries, but the SP must be charged, so if she doesn't have electricity(i.e. she lives in a village in the boonies I guess), the original model is better.

Game-wise, I can recommend Pokemon. The many versions are two sets....Ruby-Sapphire-Emerald, and Fire Red-Leaf Green.
The other pertinent set is Gold-Silver-Crystal, but they're older, out-of-date versions. FR/LG are remakes of the original Red&Blue. The sets feature only minor differences among themselves, but the difference between the different sets are great. If you get one, get Emerald. If you get two, get Emerald and one of FR/LG.

As for the other game....I'm at a loss as to what she's asking for. But any of the Super Mario Advance games is good. They're remakes of classics and are all great games, especially Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3. The former features Mario with a cape and a green dinosaur-like creature on the box, the other Mario with a raccoon tail&ears. Great games both..
