My Husband overslept today and missed work... now he has to give a good reason to his boss, and his boss is a real jerk. So, I overslept won't really do it if he wants to keep his job.

His boss thinks he has a suspended license, so he could say he went to jail, and was bailed out by one of my family members. Jail would be a pretty good idea, except we're wondering if maybe his boss would call the policce to confirm?

Or, should he just say that he was really sick, and fell asleep. He usually gets up for work at 4am, so if he was sick til 2 and forgot to get up and call at 4?

The sickness seems much more simple, and avoids a long story like the jail thing, but jail is also more of a "unavoidable" excuse.

If you're going to say that he should tell the truth, save it, because we have bills to pay and you sure aren't paying them. But if you still insist on saying something dumb, then I hope it makes you feel special and it will be ignored. Thanks!

Oh he isn't still going to work. He rides with them and it is a 2 hour drive. He isn't going to work at all.

So yeah, he isn't going at all.

Well you will always remain in the situation you are in.....struggling to get by....you know why? Because you spend way too much energy on conjuring up a lie rather than focusing on the truth. His boss probably isn't a jerk. People have businesses to run....they need dependable people....not liars! Grow up, accept responsibility for your irrisponsible behavior.....People do on occassion oversleep....Bosses understand and accept this from honest, loyal and hard workers. I'm a boss, and have had some real great workers share this with me and guess what? I have much more respect for them because they were HONEST with me. This way, I know they have integrity!

Best Excuse To Miss Work

The best excuse in that situation would probably be that he was really sick the night before and took some prescriptions that knocked him out, or depending on his line of work something that would make him uncapable of working, ie a waitress with a sprained ankle, a phone operator with no voice. Mabye even a non existing family member with an unfortunate accident. There is always the classic it is too personal to discuss excuse which is always good because it makes the boss back off a bit with out you having to come up with anything as long as your delivery looks believeable.

Reasons To Miss Work

My input may be too late since this sounds like it was way earlier, but I hope you went with the illness thing. You can always say it was food poinsoning and he was up all night fighting it. I"ve had food poisoning - it's also unavoidable. If you use the sick excuse, make sure he kinda acts sick all day - don't eat a greasy pizza at lunch or anything.

Jail just sounds like it might give the boss more of an excuse to fire him down the road.

By the way, I like your last paragraph. It was very sincere.

The absolute BEST reason for calling in sick is: diarrhea

Think about it... no matter how jerky a boss is, if you can't come to work because you're on the 'pot', then HOW could you work. After you return to work... who is going to ask... "So, how are you?"

Jail can be verified, just telling the truth is so... well, playing to his hands.

Just make sure your husband sits carefully when he talks to the boss, moans slightly as he 'lands' on the seat.

best of luck

I wouldn't say jail. Jail is never a a good answer for keeping a job.

Nausea and diarreah are the best sick excuse along with a fever. A fever means you are contagious. And no one wants to be around someone throwing up.

You dont want to use the "sick" excuse. Waaaaayyyy to common. Instead make up a good but urgent excuse like he ate sumin bad and is vomitting every 2 minutes.

Exhaustion is a form of sickness in some countries. A 24 hour bug does happen. Maybe something you ate...

I'd probably say I had the stomach flu and fell asleep. That way there is no "evidence" of an illness. Make sure you don't pack him a heavy lunch, though! :)
