Gee, I hate to tell you this, but...
PEOPLE lie. Men and women, pretty much equally. As much as I agree that men are often pigs when it comes to relationships, you can't just put lying on men, it's an equal opportunity vice.
People lie for lots of reasons -- to get something they want, to avoid responsibility for something "bad" they've done, to make themselves look more important, etc. Basically, they lie because they think they can get away with it. When caught lying, they'll almost never admit they were lying, but will tell more lies to try and avoid responsibility for lying in the first place.
It's just human nature -- not "male" nature. Sorry you seem to have run into a lot of men that are perpetual liars lately, but in your overall experiences in life you will most certainly find that *everybody* lies, and quite frequently. A good life survival skill is to learn to be able to tell lies from the truth -- and it can be hard, 'cause some people have lots of practice and are very good liars!

it starts young when you realize that your mother and grandmother and most women you meet are not what they really seem... they don't look they way they should because of the make up... that her hair was really suppose to be gray but she colors it... or that she uses a push up bra to make her breast look bigger... and who knows what other work she may have had done to change her reality
then those same women tell you that it is okay to tell little white lies to make people feel good like... yes that does look nice, no it doesn't make your butt look big, no your not fat, no you not stupid it happens to all people.... when you know good and well most people know that the D on the car stick shift means drive and R means reverse....you are a great cook really ... etc etc etc...
the reason that most men lie is that somewhere some woman taught them that big lesson that women don't want the truth... the one example that I remember is when I saw a woman tell a man the she wouldn't be upset if he just told her the truth... you know the one where they tell you they can handle anything but a lie.. and when he did she lost it and began throwing biggest fit that caused massive property damage, violations of the law and court appearances..... so
I think also it is that people tend to reap what they sow.
And not all men lie.... but those are the other group like me that tell the truth and are usually considered asshole for doing so... like most reading this are thinking now.. ;)
peace

All people lie, not just men. It's the way people are. Sometimes we tell a little white lie like when asked, does my bum look big in this and we say no even though it's huge. Then there are the other more serious lies such as who's are these then? After she finds some womens pants in the car and you reply, It was that bloke (and make up a name quick) at work messing about trying to wind me up. He knew you would find them. We did it to him last week.

Same two reasons most people lie: They don't want to be hurt or they don't want to hurt another.
Now when I say "hurt" I am not just talking just about emotions, I am talking about anything that might lessen when that person has in life. For example, if a guy has two girls he is having sex with, he will lie to both about the other girl, because if he tells them, they might stop having sex with him and he goes from having 2 girls to have sex with to only one or none to have sex with. Now would that guy lie if he knew that telling both would not lessen the number of girls he is having sex with? It goes the same for other issues such as money, time, etc.
Now if a guy knew his woman wouldn't give him a hard time for going out with his friends, would he lie about it? The reason he lies about it, even if she wouldn't give him a hard time, is because he believes that she could give him a hard time, so he avoids telling her the truth.
Why does a guy not tell his wife right away that he is getting laid-off. Is he mean? Or is he just not wanting to tell her because on one end he doesn't want to hurt her, but he is also not wanting to look like less of a man to his wife.
Why does a woman not tell her husband she just went and bought $300.00 in shoes? Because she is afraid he will be angry with her and she will lose the "peace" she has in her life at the moment. If her husband had let it be known that buying $300.00 in shoes does not bother him, then would she lie about buying shoes or would she come home and do a fashion show for him?
The key is to figure out what the other person has to lose (or what you have to lose) from telling the truth. The better you are at figuring that out and thus letting that person know that he/she isn't going to lose it by being truthful, the less likely they are going to lie.

They lie for the same reason that some women do. To get themselves out of trouble and because they are irresponsible idiots not worthy of our time. Not every man is like this in the same way that not every woman is perfect. I have had my fair share of rats in the past but then ask a decent bloke and he will tell you that he has been messed around by dodgy women too. It takes time to find the guy for you and you need the bad experiences to appreciate the 'one' when he comes along so don't despair.

Attempts at lying in the name of tact not withstanding all people deceive at some level. However, it is a fact that too many men have ulterior motives when interacting with women and result to lies and manipulation in an effort to obtain what they want.
Alas, were this a perfect world we would all be 'bad liars' and our attempts at deception could not be concealed. As it is though, if we must keep score all too many of us may accurately be characterized as the body part you make reference to.
Even worse, it's not just you.

Everybody lies in one way or another.
Sometimes we have to lie to make the other person(s) feel better, etc.
However, in your case, maybe this guy you are refering to is a casual liar but dont treat this guy as the majority of men.... as you seem to state in your question.
I guess many girls always seem to find the ones that give us guys a bad name...
At the end of the day, women lie just as much on many occassions also.... are you saying you havent lied today?

No I've met plenty of a-holes too. This is the thing, when a guy lies it's because he is insecure with the truth and/or himself. I'm in a relationship right now with a guy who has lied to me. It has benn a few months since the lie, but I'm still trying to forgive and forget. I think the problem is with us girls once a guy lies to us we can never really get over it. But to a guy, lying is no big deal so they just do it. When someone lies to them they probably forget about it in a day or less. Oh well, Venus and Mars ya know?
