80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

The only purpose life has is what you give it. If at the end of your life you can say that you gave meaning to life, then your life had purpose. If, at the end of your life you can only say that you fulfilled gods purpose, then your life had no meaning, since no one can know what gods purpose is (or even if there really is a god). So, live as you see fit, and just. Set your own ideals, and live up to them. Make yourself comfortable, and try to help make someone else comfortable.

The purpose of life, your life, is what you make it of it. But in a general sense, its really just living. Going through every day and experience as many things as you can in that one day. And get up in the morining and do it all over again. You never know when life will end, or take a turn that wont allow you to do everything you wished to do. So do it while you can and stop worring about the purpose of life and just live it!!!

I don't believe in gods. One of my purpose of life is to...understand myself. How and why do we exist. I'm a free thinker. I prefer fact than fiction. I find my life more meaningful simply because I'm not convinced or satisfied with the answers given in religions. I will find myself the purpose of my existence, not the simple answer stated in a fictional book or something. Life is about finding answers. Right now, I just have to keep myself alive and healthy till I found my answers.

Neither is God necessary nor unnecessary to have a purpose in life. Purpose is what you assign to your own life, and no one but you is responsible for it.You think well as to what you want to make of your life, and debate a little about it. If and when you are clear in mind about this choice, you can say you have a goal. A series of such goals together will make a reasonable picture of your purpose in life. Try it and then return to this forum for further dialogue.

If you don't believe in God, there is no purpose for life.

Think about it, you live, you die and the world still keeps spinning. Humans serve no purpose in the grand scheme of things. The planet is not affected by our existence and will keep being a planet long after we are dead as a species.

In reality, we change nothing.

Unless you believe in God and then this life is a training ground for the next level of existence. I prefer to believe in God and have my life mean something.

Pleasure! The purpose of life is to enjoy it.

Love, laugh, learn, grow. Have fun! Follow your dreams. Live with passion! Appreciate all that is magical & beautiful in the world.

& I didn't even mention God! D'Oh! Ok I guess I just did....

You don't need religion to appreciate life though. Nature is divine in itself. It's an extraordinary world. Go out & explore it!

OK, if you exclude God than the purpose of life is to toss you around on the waves until you are crashed against a rock or totally for all your days tossed out furthest away from home. like a boat adrift in the roughest of seas until life remembers you not.

the purpose of life is to achieve something. as you have insisted not to talk about god, i shall be more practical. you are derived in this earth due to the pleasure attained by your parents years before and on the basis of some genetic codifications. having born, you have taken much from your parents and family to learn the basics of living. the society has also put in lots to grow you up and make you how you are today. its time now to repay the debts of growing you all along. repay not by means of money, but by means of achievement, determination and success in any field you love. you should also pour affecton on those who have made you come up all these days. the ultimate purpose of life is to satisfy people who have made you whatever you are today and those people who have shared your thoughts and those who have given you comfort. also you have a responsibility towards the country which allowed your birth and growth as its citizen this is the purpose with which we have to live accordin to me.
