He ordered me not to revisit his outlet stores for the purpose of buying goods to resell. He said if he came back in 1/2 year and I was still doing it "I would be looking for a lot of trouble" Since the legal protection of trademarks disappears when an item is sold, does he have any legal weight behind his threats?

He is just trying to intimidate you because you are competing against him. As long as you are doing everything legally, including collecting any applicable sales taxes and paying your income taxes, then you should be ok. I don't get why he should care as long as he's making a buck off of you. Next time he harasses you, nicely tell him if he wants to sue you to stop selling that you'd be happy to meet him in court. That should shut him up.

This is America. The epicenter of capitalism. You may buy and sell whatever you want at will as long as you are the legal owner. Government secrets and military arms excepted.
