Tylenol PM while pregnant? I asked a question last night about sciatica, and one of the answers I got from another pregnant women was to take tylenol pm to help me sleep. I know you can take regular tylenol but wouldn't have thought that the PM would be safe for the baby.

My doctor told me that he would approve of any type of tylenol; pm, cold, regular, etc Just ask your doctor his opinion, but usually tylenol brand is generally considered safe.

I would think that what you should really do is ask your doctor and not YA. Not to be rude but if she told you to take Tylenol PM and you did........what if it was bad for the baby. Hence you talking to your doctor to be on the safe side with you and the baby. Tylenol PM is not addictive and is suppose to help put you to sleep. As far as I know it has no side effect. This is with most people and I have not heard any study of it being given to pregnant women. Regular Tylenol is for pain and if you have no pain why take something for pain. Tylenol PM is different. Pleas speak with your doctor first.

In short, yes, you can take Tylenol PM while pregnant. Of course take the recommended dosage, not more.
It's best to ask your OB/GYN prior to taking anything but Tylenol seems to be on the Type B list.

A quote from drugs.com/tylenol.
"Tylenol is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is unlikely to be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not take Tylenol without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant."

Seems to be the running theme around the Internet. Check a few reputable sites, ask your doc, and try to wait through the first trimester if you can - that's when things are trickiest.

Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy!

My Dr told me to take Tylenol PM cause I was having a hard time sleeping. Most tylenol products are fine to take. Ask your Dr just to make sure.

I have a friend that is pregnant and I heard the doctor tell her that it was OK to take Tylenol pm as long as its not all the time. If you take it only take it when absolutely needed! He told her that it wouldn't hurt the baby! She takes it just about every night and the baby is just fine. Just know that any medicine you take while pregnant will go straight to your baby and just because some aren't harmful doesn't mean that others aren't. DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN!!!

My doctor told me that if I had any pains or headaches that tylenol was absolutely safe to take. I'm not sure about PM however.

You can take Tylenol PM. It has the same active ingredient as Benydryl.
ekenivel said to take aspirin, that is incorrect. You should not take Ibuprofen, Naproxen (Aleve) or aspirin while pregnant. Acetaminophen (tylenol) is safe.
I suffered horribly from insomnia when I was just pregnant and the doctor gave me a prescription for Ambien... (the BEST stuff in the world)
As you plan... just discuss it with your doctor when you see him or you can call his office and ask the nurses... they helped me all the time with stuff like this.... best wishes!!

I don't believe in taking anything like that when you are pregnant. What affects you will affect your baby more. Would you give tylenol pm to your two month old baby? Then don't give it to your unborn baby. Try taking a warm bath, try some relaxing techniques, maby even yoga a couple hours before bed, meditation works well too.

Definitely talk to your doctor. That is the only way you will know for sure. I have three children and the doctor I had with my first said absolutely NO over the counter medications. The doctor for my last two said ONLY Tylenol.

So each doctor has different opinions and don't take any medical advice from anyone but him or her!
