A persuasive paper is supposed to try and sway your audience in one way or another. Of course, a key to doing this is to acknowledge the opposition. It's difficult to give you any ideas without knowing what your persuasive assertion is. What is it that you want to persuade people to do or believe?

Choose a subject for which you yourself understand both sides of the issue (or else research that other side thoroughly), not just one side's perceptions of the other side. If you choose abortion or the Iraq war, for instance, don't just present the side you disagree with as you see them - take an honest look at what they have to say for themselves.

Your paper will be all the stronger if you can present the other side clearly, and you critique them based on clear facts, not by distortions or mischaracterizations.
