It's a very interesting but sad story. It's one of my Dad's favorite books, and the story takes place on an island near California. I read it probably in fourth grade and it made me cry. If I remember correctly, it's very well written plus suspenseful. If you use your imagination -which is uncommon, with video games and tv being so popular- you can visualize the people, place, the ocean, and will feel like you're thousands of miles and decades away....

It's an excellent book based on a true story. A girl and her brother did get left behind when their people moved to another island and survived on their own for a while. The boy died. The girl was found by sailors eventually and brought to civilization.
Here's the kicker that really isn't in the movie, but is fact. The reason this true story got the attention of Scott O'Dell is no one, absolutely no one, spoke the girl's language. The rest of her people were not found in her lifetime. I don't know if they've been located since.
Yes, it's a good book. The book is better than the movie and there is a sequel, too.

I read that book a long time ago, when I was just a girl. I loved it and now I have a blue dolphin tattooed on my leg.

I don't remember reading the book, but there is a movie, it is very good. Even though it is long, it is interesting throughout.

It's awesome! The begining three chapters are a bit slow, but it will pick up. It doesn't move too fast and the ending is a bit mysterious, but have no fear! It shouldn't bore you.
