Depends on the relationship between you and the boss, if you two are great buddies then a business dinner would be no problem but if out of the blue he wants to talk to you like a buddy and then he asks you out, I would suggest not going.

No matter what people tell you it will all depend on you. If you feel that it is right to go then go but if you are questioning it then you obviously don't feel to sure about it. The other answers are right it would further your career but do you think that by going you are hindering something? It all depends on you. If you feel that it will better further your career and there are no ties with your boss then go but if it is more personal than business then I would take caution.

i think its a good thing you have been asked. means the boss sees you as more than just someone who just sits there all day. your boss must think that you will be able to bring something good to the meeting - which is basically what it is.
just remember to dress smart and dont get drunk - unless everyone else is already drunk.

Sorry yet in case you do the inviting, you pay and it doesn't remember about money interest status and that's no longer an element that would want to be lined. yet as he earns better than your husband and they comprehend that it is your birthday, they are going to likely provide to pay yet in the adventure that they don't, you presented so that you pay.
