Yes. The best indicator of what a child can and should eat at this stage is the child. At that age introduce small portions of new foods and then watch for signs of discomfort. Some children can eat these types of food and some cannot - each is unique. Just go slowly and watch carefully and your child will let you know!

Sure. Peek, you should consider getting a book called "What to Expect the First Year" and "What to Expect the Toddler Years". We had both of these books and they were the instruction manuals for our kids. They have a list every month of things the child should be doing, sleep habits, possible problems, health concerns, just about everything under the sun. I would have been completely lost as a parent without them.

Yes, my son was eating the flavor oatmeal at that point. Of course the doctor told us he could eat whatever he wanted (with in reason). They usually can start eating table foods at 6 months.

of course!

don't make the entire diet focus on the oatmeal though

the oats aren't broken down in the baby's mouth, but will be broken down in the stomach - this will cause gas, but it shouldn't be enough to cause discomfort (it's nothing to worry about) unless of course, s/he does seem to be in pain.

try mixing apple sauce, or other fruit sauces into the oatmeal for flavor, the baby will appreciate it. i don't know if adding maple syrup is ok though, it might be too much sugar

Yeah but they seem to like it better with a little milk mixed in. You can sweeten it with a SMALL amount of sugar, but stay away from honey for a few more months.
