No, you need to play with him. Those spaz attacks are just him getting energy out. He needs activity or you need to give him to a family that can give him a lot of attention.

I think the first thing to do is stop using your hands to play with him. He thinks they are toys. Instead, try using a cat teaser. You can get that at just about any pet store.
Most cats get wired up every once in awhile and tear through the house. Nothing to worry about.
The second thing to do is neuter him. No matter what. A neutered cat is a healthier, more content cat. And I agree with your Grandpa. I do believe your tom will become a better pet if you do that for him. He will still be playful, just not as aggressive.

My cat is like that and he just wants to play. I got him neutered as a kitten (he's 5 now) and that didn't stop his hyperness. He tends to bite a lot, and not in a bad way, he just does that and doesn't know it hurts. I have noticed that as he gets older it subsides more and more, but I think your cat is normal. He just wants attention and may not know that the biting and scratching actually hurts.

It is natural and it is annoying, too. My cat used to do it a lot. Then, coincidentally we got a new kitten, and when they were playfully biting each other the first cat learned not to bite us, that we arenot cats. Now, he only bites when he wants to be left alone. In any case, you shouldn't allow your cat to bite you. He may hurt you eventually. Maybe you can scare him by banging a rolled newspaper right by his side (avoid hitting him, of course).

cats are wierd, i am willing to bet that yes if u get him neutered he should stop but most cats after being neutered lose the "fun" and become lazy cats. just what i've mostly seen. now my cat is a sweet lil cat but sometimes he will rub his head in my hand and want me to pet him then all of a sudden he rolls in a ball and starts gettn playful (biting and kicking) its just a cat thing, i heard cats that arent neuterd do it because they get aroused (wierd i know) and get to attack mode when they play because they feel fiesty, i dont know if u like your cat being like that but if not you can get him fixed, i like my cat being crazy so i keep him the way he is, lol.

get him neutered is a good idea. it will calm him down a bit & he won't want to wander in search of girlfriends.
my cat do this, too. I call it the wild kitty mode. they're just playing & releasing pent up energy.
