It is conformity even when you try hard too hard to differentiate yourself through "punk/rock/metal" music, get a thousand tattoos and dye your hair blue. You don't conform only when you listen, watch and wear and listen to what only YOU like not what you think others will think is cool.
Even if what you watch is the Lizzie Maguire show on Disney channel, what you wear is Gap and what you listen to is the top 40s. It's all about being yourself and not overdoing on the "non-conformity" thing. The trend now is to be different, and teenagers are trying too hard. Just do what you like, that's the key point.

I totally embrace my eccentrities and revel in the fact that I'm such an oddball. Face it, being normal is boring. Who wants to hang out with a bunch of carbon copies of yourself? I just accept the fact that my zany personality isn't going to win me any popularity contests and take comfort in the fact that I'd rather be remembered for being different than be forgotten or overlooked for being dull.

I don't have to fight conformity; I just ignore it.
I meet my own standards, which sometimes match others' and sometimes don't.

By just being yourself. We are all unique and individual. If we stay true to ourselves, then we won't conform.
