I haven't been forced into taking a career, but when I was in high school it was popular to take computer engineering. When I told my friends I want to be a history major, they all laughed, but I took history anyway and I am now in college doing really good in it. For me it's improtant to "love" the job that I am going to do. Some people just go to college to make a lot of money, but I was looking for a job that I can enjoy doing, knowing I made a difference :).

Do not EVER listen to what people say to you, not even your parents or career advisors. Only you know what is best for you as long as you weight careful your decision. Go for it!
Even if you are making a mistake, at least you are trying what you want to do and will have no regret in the future " What if...".
If you realised you have made a mistake, just choose another branch/industry. It is NEVER too late.

Your family will try to influence you, but you can't be forced into it. No one can force you into any career.
Make your own (realistic) plans for a career. If you want to major in journalism, go for it. Journalism is a competative field, but entry-level jobs/assistantships still exist within journalism.

Pharmacy ain't so bad. It's clean, indoors, and no heavy lifting.
I'd rather teach high-school history or deliver pizza, but Pharmacy pays much, much better.
The very best of journalists can make it. But most languish. But even 'meatball' pharmacists make a mountain of dough.
I stopped 'following my dreams' when I realized at 12 years of age that Playboy didn't need any more photographers.
