People in this country are so blindly optimistic about Capitalism and Consumerism.

Does anyone worry at all that unabaited, no accountability capitalism/consumerism run amok can drive this country right into the ground.

How long can you get away with abusing the customers in America?

How is it exactly that consumers are being abused? I agree that Consumerism very well could run this country into the ground, but that is the fault of consumers living beyond their means and borrowing to do so- not capitalism's fault. Capitalism is simply the freeing up of people to make their own decisions in what they think is their own best interest.

The reason the general public is blinded is because the messages they are subjected to day and night are crafted by corporations - it isn't just the advertising that funds the mass media, the media themselves are structured in the form of authoritarian corporations. With so much power stacked against us, it is very difficult to escape the massive amounts of consumer brainwashing.

If people in India grow up to be Hindu, and people in Saudi Arabia grow up to be Muslim, growing up with mass advertising in a similar way trains the people in the West to follow the corporate consumerist religion.
