Obviously you've already seen the doctor, since your son has had blood work done. What did they test for? What did the doctor say then? If he told you "if he's not better in __days, call me" then call the office, tell them you need to speak with the doctor about your son who is not better. They will take a meesage for him to call you back more than likely, but be persistant. If you don't hear back in a couple of hours call again. Ask when they think you will be hearing from the doctor. IF your doctor does not 'make his own phone calls' then it is time to find a new physician.

More than likely your son has some sort of virus which takes time to overcome. The chest pains are more than likely from the coughing which is very normal. Joint pain from his body trying to fight whatever is going on, again "normal". But if you are uncomfotable with his condition, be persistant with the office to get in to see the doc.

That's ridiculous. I don't know you or your doctor, so, I can only tell you what I would do with MY sick child - I would put my child in the car and drive over to the doctor's office WITHOUT an appointment, bring my child into the office, and tell the person at the front desk that you and your child are not leaving until the doctor sees your child. The doctor HAS to make time - even 5 minutes!!! - to see your sick child.

If you are not this "brave" (and for your child's sake, I hope that's not the case, but -), go to your county health department and you should be able to see a pediatrician there (call first to make sure one is in today).

Last resort is to go to the nearest ER.

I would start looking for a new doctor, btw. The one you have doesn't sound very compassionate - and if s/he is so busy that s/he can't see a sick child for another 6 days? That doctor is way too busy for me. I hope it's nothing serious. Good luck, sweetie, and remember - YOU are your child's ONLY advocate!

1) ER, but you will pay out the wazoo

2) Urgent Care Center, but like the ER, you'll pay more to go there.

3) Just wait until December 6. If the doctor isn't worried, try to manage. You don't have 3+ weeks to wait, just 6 days.

Personally, I would go to the ER. You may trust your doctor, but they're people and can make mistakes. If there is a walk-in clinic, you could try that or if there is a doctor on call, I'd go there. I just think the ER would be a great place to go even though it's expensive. There have been cases of meningitis that have been misssed and caused death.

Try a variety of doctors in area to see who has a closer appointment; realize with flu season this is busier time of year for doctors.

If nothing else, take thru emergency room - seems these are continued sympthoms.....could be flu or pneumonia sympthoms.

Hope he feels better soon!

Did you tell the receptionist your concerns? If possible, tell the receptionist to contact you if there are any last minute cancellations. You can also try the emergency room and if they deem it an emergency they can contact your primary care physician and urge your doctor to see him. If your doctor cannot see your son on short notice when he is experiencing serious symptoms I think its time to choose another doctor. My specialist (not even my primary doctor) gave me his beeper number so I can contact him in case of emergencies.

Have you check to see when their walk in clincs are? Sometimes you are able to get in that way, there are rules set up for this though it has to be considered a emergency type of situation, and you are only allowed to utilize this once or twice month.

If you're really worried take him to a walk in clinic or the emergency room. I would certainly consider that if he has a fever as well as the other symptoms.

Call a different doctor, or find one that accepts walk-ins, like a after hours clinic.

If he gets worse, go to the ER
