I live in a small town, and it seems as soon as Wal-Mart moved in, there was at least one mom and pop shop closing a week. I try to support my local businesses, and will even make several different stops to get all my shopping done, because not only is it people I've known most of my life, they add character and life to my town.

I shop the big stores if I have a large list and I'm going there any way. If I don't have to leave the neighborhood, then I shop at several different Mom and Pop stores. There's one in particular that I always go to for Carne Asada, I can get it elsewhere for cheaper, but these folks have the best so I always give them my business..........

I always liked the mom & pop places, but unfortunately they are being run out of business by the big places.
I do enjoy the variety of the larger stores, so I guess that's why they got popular. One-stop shopping. It's kind of sad, actually.

Well....Many of my family members own small businesses so I do try to shop there or at others. I live in a small town and there many small businesses family owned. BUT when it comes to what I like to do or where I like to shop I like the larger stores better...

I try to shop at local 'mom n' pop' stores. The prices are higher but it's good for the neighborhood. Also, 'mom n' pop' know who you are and give you great service.

I like the service you receive at the Ma and Pop stores, but I feel like the larger stores can afford to offer lower prices.

Mom & Pop shops are the best! The only time I had trouble dealing with the smaller stores is when I worked in warranty claims at my last job, and the problems were just a matter of the smaller shops not always having the resources they needed. But as a consumer, I much prefer a small, unique store to the stuff that's in the mall :)
And, my hubby ran a transcription business for a while, so I know firsthand how hard it is to be small business! :)
