If you have had a baby already, you've probably been 1 cm since conception, because once you have one you don't close up as tightly.

Remember that it's all an estimation based on what they can feel. Having different people check you is going to get different results.

How far dilated and effaced you are really says nothing about when labor will come anyway. Youl could walk around for a week or more dilated 3-4 cm and 100% effaced. (I did with my first!) Or you could be closed up tight as a bank vault and have a baby a few hours later.

There is very little difference between being 1cm and closed. Measurement is based on fingertip touching the cervix. No one has a ruler inside for an accurate measurement. It's common for some women to always be at a one. Just try to relax and prepare for your Big Exciting Day, an Good Luck

Or maybe the Doc that said you were "closed" just meant not ready. I wish Docs would be consistent too with their language.

When you go in again for your checkup, make sure to ask the doctors what they mean. This is important for later when you have to take your kid in, too, because they don't always realize they aren't being clear with their explanations. They are used to what they are saying, but it is new to you.
