Hi, if a burgular wanted to get into your home to steal something would they still do it if a 14 year old boy was in the house? I live in a fairly big house in a village and in the local area we are known to have quite a bit in the house like jewles and other things but if one day i was in the house, would a burgular still come in the house to steal or go away because i was in the house....

generally they go for the house of least resistance - the easiert to rob. This means they will go for an empty one first, if they have a choice of 2 empty ones they will go for the most secluded or the one without an alarm.

So keep a few lights on and lock the doors. Ideally, if the house has several cars make sure one is visible in the front of the house.

Your family has made a stupid mistake letting it be known you have quite of bit of valuable stuff in the house. If your house is targetted by contract burgulars they will not be put off by it being occupied. Tell your parents off from me !

I also live in a big house, no one has any clue whats in my house.

Your 14 years old, you live in a big house in a small village with lots of valuables in it, and you have a dog called Molly. If I know of a kid who is going to Belgium on Friday but has been off school this week with a cold then I've cracked it, i'll know exactly who you are......you should be a bit more careful....anyone who has time can build a picture of you quite easily you know.

i also know you are likely to be upstairs in your bedroom building webpages. And I also know it would be best to rob you on a saturday as you work in a vets as an assistant.

And i know which clothes you wear.

i even know which town and county ( begins with S, right ? ) you live in, but will not repeat it here.

See, its easy to narrow you down, just trying to help point out how easy it is to identify you if you don't take care. You forget what snippets you give out, people can piece then together if they put the time in.

take care. Just be pleased I'm trying to help and not a stalker !

10 points for possibly saving your life will be just reward, thanks

It happens all the time. A burgular will case the place and then pick his prime time to enter. People by nature are habit creatures; meaning they do the same routine generally day after day. Go to work, come home, take kids to sports or whatever, go to bed. A burgular would probably prefer no one was home, but I really doubt that it would stop them no matter what age.

If the Burgular knows the area and has an idea what you have in the home, he/she may well take the risk, if you in a big house you could be one end of it and not know the burgular is the other end. Depends how brave they are aswell.

Depends on the burglars! some do it for the trill and i guess some for money! only a few days ago burglars tied a family up while they burgled them not far from where i live! i suppose some enjoy scaring people and they feel big holding a knife up to another person in there home!

but i don't really know as iv never been a burgular! he he

Most burglar's would prefer a completely empty house, a house with all the occupiers on holiday etc. They could then take their time and be choosy. But , a lot of burglers are drug-addicts and they wont be so fussy, they would not care if the house is full of people they will still go in and steal. Talking of experience now. Get yourself a very large dog, train him to only eat what you give him and not take anything from others and most of all train him to be quiet, that will surprise the burglers.Good luck.:))

Yes they would probably burgle your house regardless of anyone being in it. I'm kind of in a similar similar situation, sort of big house, female, village etc. Obviously I never leave any door/window etc unlocked when I'm not in that particular room. I have always had one of several plans for dealing with a burglar if I'm on my own, depending on what room I'm in when it happens and what time. For instance, if I'm upstairs and its daytime I would lock myself in the bathroom. I would then be able to scream for someone to ring the Police (if no mobile) from the bathroom window and get out if necessary, for instance if violence was a possibility. If I'm downstairs and they are upstairs - eg if I came in and disturbed them I'd probably get straight out of the house if I could. If I was burgled at night and I'm in bed I'd probably just try and stay as quiet as possible; and dial 999. (although I've always thought about putting some random music on full blast. I'd hope that they'd be so shocked they'd leg it!). I would imagine that most burglars carry some sort of 'protection', most probably a knive or even a gun. If they have heard you and threaten violence just co-operate. Tell them to take what they want and get out. Your parents will not be concerned about loosing valuables when your life is at stake. If they want safe codes etc give it to them. If you don't know think of something else they could take instead and suggest. Really if your parents do have valuables they should be kept in a safe box at the bank or something. The other option is a panic alarm system or something. They can be wired up in certain points of the house that connect directly to Police control, and can be silent to avoid 'alarming' the burglars which may make them do something stupid. What ever you do though, don't deliberately confront them, even if you keep a shotgun (unloaded) or something in the house because if they are that determined and you provoke them they could just shoot you. To be honest you will never know what to do until you are put in the situation and know what you are dealing with and as much as I say never confront anyone I probably would if I geuninely thought I could scare them off or something.

What one would have to do to get into our home?

First they would have to SHOOT and KILL our dogs...This is after they climb the 6" high fence (well I guess after for the dogs would be there).
Then they best hope Mr. is not here, I can shoot a gun too, but my hands do not work so well these days.
If one of the sheriff officers have to talk to us they wont even come into the gate!

We have a 14 year old. He does stay here alone sometimes. Him and his brother can not get to our guns, or the ammo. They would have to do the same thing with the dogs, we never take all of them with us when we leave.

Thief's would also have to "hide" from our neighbors. Our neighbors would call the sheriffs office in a quick second if they saw something odd going on here. We will do the same for them! We may not be best friends with all our neighbors, but we do look out for each other.

The same for you if you were at your home alone. If you have any kind of neighbors at all! Also our 14 year old usually has the phone with him for he is always on it lol! Our town is small and his best friend lives on the Indian Reservation which is not in walking distance.
Also leave lights on and a TV going so if a thief did look your house over it looks like someone is home....
Hope this helps you? I don't think this is a real common thing for houses to be robbed??

Depends on the burgular. If he doesn't want to be known about it'd probably not come in, but if he doesn't care and would hurt someone, he'd probably come in.

If they were determined to steal something, then they wouldn't let anything get in their way.
The best way of deterring thieves is plenty of lights and noise.
It's a good idea to have a switch fitted to the lighting system, that turns lights on and off.
This makes it look as though the house is busy, and having the t.v and stereos playing as well..
A guard dog is a good form of defence as well,as they would give you plenty of warning if someone was attempting to break into your property.
