No, it's not hilarious at all. First, it's not natural to have an animal of that size in a "pool", no matter how large. Second, this wasn't an "attack". If an orca attacks you to kill you, you don't swim away like the trainer did. The whale grabbed his foot and didn't let go...he didn't try to eat or kill him like many think. To the people that think the whale should be killed after this...get a clue. He didn't ask to be stuck in an aquarium for your enjoyment. He was simply being a whale. And by the way, the name "killer whale" is derived from the way they eat their food. They act as a group and surround their prey and "play" with it for a while before eating it. They DO NOT attack people in the wild. Let's get educated before crying for "whale stew". This also isn't the first time a Sea World whale grabbed a trainer and wouldn't let go. It happened years ago to a female trainer who the whale apparently didn't want to see leave the pool.

I don't think it's funny, just hopefully a wake up call for people working with wild animals. While Seaworld does a significant amount of good at research, conservation and rescuing endangered marine life, the fact that a Killer Whale is not a dog like someone mentioned above must always remembered by anyone working with or watching them as they perform. Also as mentioned the DO NOT attack humans in the ocean, but they can and do attack pretty much what ever else they want to eat and do so quickly and efficiently. As a matter of fact, just recently it was documented that two killer whales were feeding on a sea lion off the coast of San Francisco. A great white shark was attracted to the kill and ended up as part of their dinner also. If I'm not mistaken I think they killed it in three bites. They are the #1 predator of the ocean and they have no predator themselves. If Shamu had intended to really hurt the trainer she would have done so immediately and he would have been dead. She was probably just reminding him who was in charge in the water, something he should have known all along and definitely not something she should be killed for by ignorant human beings.

My guess is they have played this game before and this time the whale just didn't feel like letting go. Shamu was playing. If that whale "attacked" as some think and the media is portraying the trainer would be missing a foot if lucky and dead if not so lucky.

each and every couple of years, we study a coach being injured even as contained in the tank with a killer whale. we do not comprehend what this particular killer whale became wondering this time. She dragged the guy down underwater and held him there... then presented him to the exterior, then down again. Who knows? perchance she idea she might want to educate him to carry his breath for better than a minute. In different different attacks, that's extra glaring that the whale both did not like the coach, or became drained of doing tricks in a stinky managed surroundings.

Totally agree with you... since the guy wasn't really damaged or dead, it is just one of the dangers of the job. Plus, if you'd been doing tricks for 30 years, you'd get pissy sometimes too!!! They call them "killer whales" for a reason!
