Most salons want it to be at least 1/8 inch long, or about 3mm. There needs to be enough hair that the wax can adhere and grip it to make sure it pulls it out at the root, not just what is on the surface. Otherwise, you end up with hair growing back as fast as if you had shaved, or not being able to pull out all of the hair on the first try. And you can't re-wax an area because of how irritated the skin will get.

Bikini Wax Length

You can have a bikini wax as long as the growth is visible.

What you really need to know, though, is how long the hair has to be in order for there to be a very good chance that the grip the wax will take on the hair will be strong enough to pull the hair out.

If the hair in question is very fine indeed, then perhaps 1/8" will be OK. If, on the other hand, the hair is very coarse and wiry, it's likely to be strongly rooted. so perhaps it would be better to let it grow out to even as much as 1/2" before waxing.

the wax won't be able to grip the hair properly unless it's at least 1/8 of an inch long.
