I am a 64 year old man living in England and I have been retired for 3 years.

Yes, I used to be scared about getting old, but hey!, it's not so bad after all IF you don't close your eyes.

By "closing your eyes" I'm talking about the people who refuse to take new technology on board. I would say that more than half of the people I know of around my age have completely closed their eyes to the world of computers.

The usual comment being, "I've managed all my life without a computer - why start now?"

If you can keep an open mind to the new things going on round you - and not be an old fuddy duddy and tut tut at new fashions, there is nothing to worry about. You will enjoy the extra free time.

Obviously the most important thing is to keep yourself fit, but don't let it worry you that you can't do what you used to be able to do. Live with it. There is always an alternative.

I look forward to being old. Counting down from fourty years until I can collect a pension. Awesome. I can sit in the park and gossip and talk about the good old days and say catchy phrases like "when I was your age..." and feed the birds. I'll play with my grandchildren and tell them stories and sing them songs. I want to get a rocking chair for my porch and an old dog to sit on the porch with me. It'll be awesome because I'll have the memories of a whole life to reflect upon. I'm not afraid to get old because I'm not afraid to die. I think its really selfish to cling to life like that. The best thing we can do for future generations is to thin out the population a bit.

Think about this...you are driving down the street, and an elderly person is crossing. It takes them so long, that they cannot get all the way to the other side in the time alloted for the green light. They try to hurry, afraid of being hit. They are hunched over, their faces are grimaced with the pain of trying to make their bodies move more quickly. All the drivers are impatient, and honking their horns. We've all seen it. Now...that person is you. Its going to happen to all of us...if we live long enough. The fear is becoming that person we never thought would be us.
