would you stay or would you ask for a raise?

Probably low. I never could stay after announcing my "other job". It always seemed like:
1) that's the only way you could get a raise again.
2) someone would be upset with you for "doing that to them".
or
3) why was I looking in the first place? You don't leave just because the "offer" was not right. Maybe the time to leave is just the right time. Maybe the people aren't the ones you want to spend the rest of your life with...

Your question also should ask how many people get counter offers and not "Don't let the door hit you on the way out."
