Are they trying to track debtors down, so they can threaten them with prison,
and they'll do what they're told? Just like this phoney War on Drugs? Trying to
get something on everybody, so we'll do what we're told?

It's bait and switch advertising at its best. What you get for free is a 'raw' score which isn't necessarily what the lendrs use to access your credit standing. After you go tot he sites you ar eoffered an opportunity to sign up to that service to have your report cleaned up and learn how to maintain a solid credit rating. What a scam. And the lousy thing about it is that somehow it has become nationwide and you can't get credit wothout a 'good' score even if you have had a financial change. It even adds to the costs of goods sold because retail sources, banks, auto dealers, etc must pay to be a part of the system. Incidentally, they have 'something' on almost everybody. It isn't govermental even; these are private companies. You may not live well without decent credit but you won't go to jail either, unless you pass bad checks or something. Under foreseeable conditions in the near future we must live with this system so keep paying those bills on time, borrow a little, maintain that mortgage and try to be happy.
