Recently I went for a pollution check certificate for my maruti 800 and the pollution level was more than 8. the guy said that he can adjust the level down to less than 3 in a min. he opened the bonnet/hood and made some adjustment. can anyone tell what exactly he did and on which part he made the adjustment?
Thanks in advance

You must be using the Pre-MPFI version of the 800. All that the mechanic would have adjusted is the fuel intake in the carburettor. If it is very rich during idling you get unburnt fuel or a large amount of Carbon monoxide (which you do not see). And idling is what they see in a petrol engine. You should also see a better average from this adjustment, but also a marginal drop in power at lower speeds, and maybe some vibration during idling, especially on a cold morning.

there is no easy solutions to set right pollution levels as there are a no of variables which come into picture.
that learn ed guy has tweaked yr carburetor setting to give a leaner air/fuel mix which will
reduce yr emissions leading to better/lesser emissions.
Best thing is to show to an authorised maruti centre to improve yr emissions other option is to convert it to LPG fuel
