My personal definitions:
* Love is wanting someone to be happy
* To love is to understand

The best definition I ever heard came from a Lutheran pastor who explained love in the Bible did not mean you had to like someone:
* To love your neighbor means to care for that person's soul

And another statement on love came from a humanist philosopher, who said this definition resolved a debate over "when does human life begin":
* a human being is someone who is loved
He said no one was able to argue with that.
