What must I do to become a Hallmark card writer ?

A friend of mine wanted to write and do graphics for cards she finally got into American Greetings...all she did was go to school (computer graphics classes) and watch for when they were hiring. She would call them once a month to find out when they were she took a portfolio in and set up interviews she impressed them appearently because shes been there since.
