Anglesey in North Wales is called an island, yet is attached to the mainland by two bridges. It is separated from the mainland by a narrow stretch of water known as the Menai Strait. It is connected to the mainland by two bridges, the original Menai Suspension Bridge (carrying the A5), built by Thomas Telford in 1826 as a road link, and the newer, twice reconstructed Britannia Bridge, carrying the A55 and the North Wales Coast Railway line. The A5025 circles most of its coast. As well as the Isle of Anglesey, the county of Anglesey covers a number of smaller islands, in particular Holy Island.

This would appear to come down to personal thougths on an island. When thinking what is the biggest Island, two common answers are Australia and Greenland, so an island can be big. There appears to be no offical Maxium size.

when it is connected to a mainland by either a tidal flat or a continuous causeway. A bridge does not count as water still flows under, still dividing island from mainland.
then there are lands that articially become islands, like cape cod or the Chesapeake canal, both seperated from mainlands by man-made uninterupted canals continuously at sea level, but not really recognized as islands.
