I speak to them through the window cos i dont know if they are checking the place out for their friends to hit. My wife says I'm being paranoid. What can i do to stop them from coming over.

Just ignore them and do not answer the door when they come visting and watch what they do from the window,if you feel that you are not safe then you should try telling them,but if they persist,call the police.

try being friendly, but its no problem not inviting them inside or? you can always talk by the door or porch.
