I ask this in a certain way so please make sure you read before you answer.
Boyz II Men were one of my favorite bands in the 90's. And in a video called "thank you" it shows them in a jeep. and then one of them walks into a not so nice looking apartment in another scene.
Well soon after i watched this i met someone who knew them at one time in Philidelphia. I asked her if that video had any truth to it.
she told me that they all shared one ride.. and none of them had ever owned anything really nice. No big houses or anything.
So it got me thinking.
If every actor-actress-singer-comedian,, whatever they might fall under saved their money. If they lived the basic life, no donations to any organization or chartiy, or had to pay for their movies (Hot Shots 2 got paid more then 50% out of their own pays), who would be the richest celebrity today?

umm surely Oprah gives to charity and owns nice houses and such...
I mean who would be the richest if they lived a simple life and was still a celebrity.

hell i wonder if Tommy Lee Jones might be the answer.
He makes great movies.. dont know if he donates much, but i know for sure his only offficial house is a ranch in Central texas.
When he needs to make a movie, he either stays with someone or rents a place.

It sounds like you're really looking for celebrity's who don't give to charity...Cameron Diaz won't give to charity...plus if you ask her for an autograph she doesn't just say no, she also gives you a lecture about why autographs are stupid...and she will only wash her face with Evian...not sure that falls in your "Simple Life" catergory, but at 20mil per movie I'm sure she ranks up there with the richest of the rich celebs...besides Oprah that is..who is richer than God himself.

Of all time or just today? Right now Oprah is the highest earning celeb, but if she had to produce her own shows & magazines, I'm not sure if she'd stay there. What about their other investments, etc.? good question
