Old fashioned, hmmm, if they are sentimental you could always name a star after them at the International Star Registry, http://www.starregistry.com . It is a different, unique gift that is very thoughtful. How many people have stars in the sky named after them? Also, if your grandfather fought in a war, you could have a flag flown over the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. for him. Your local Congressman/woman or Senator will write a letter to go along with it as well.
Just an idea.
