First, you want to start by squaring 2x + 3
to square that. Your 2x is in the 'a' place and 3 in the 'b' place. The formula to square an equation like that is a^2 + 2ab + b^2
so you get:

(2x)^2 + 2(2x)(3) + 3^2 = 6
4x^2 + 12X + 9 = 6

Now you can subtract 6 from both sides

4x^2 + 12x + 3 = 0

Now, you use the quadratic formula, which is:

-b (+ or -) square root ( b^2 - 4ac)
----------------------------------------------
2a

-12 (+ or - ) square root ( (12)^2 - 4(4)(3) )
--------------------------------------------------------
2(4)

-12 (+ or -) square root ( 144 - 48 )
----------------------------------------------
8

-12 ( + or - ) square root ( 96 )
---------------------------------------
8

So, you are going to have 2 options:

-12 + square root (96) or
---------------------------
8

-12 - square root (96)
---------------------------
8

x = -0.275 or -2.725

(2x+3)^2=6
Take square root of both sides of equation getting:
2x+3 = + or - sqrt(6)
2x = -3 + or - sqrt(6)
x= -3/2 + or - sqrt(6)/2
Thus x = -3/2 +sqrt(6)/2, and also
x = -3/2 - sqrt(6)/2

(2x+3)^2 = 6
(2x+3)(2x+3) = 6
4x^2 + 6x + 6x + 9 = 6
4x^2 + 12x + 3 = 0

Using the quadratic equation, you get
x = -4.4
x = -43.6

(2x + 3)^2 = 6
=> 4x^2 + 12x + 9 = 6
=> 4x^2 +12x + 3 = 0
Now use,
x =(-12 +OR- V(144-48))/8
=(-12 +OR- V96) / 8
=(-12 +OR- 4V6)/8
= -(3/2) +OR- (V2V3)/2
= (V3/2) [ +OR- V2 - V3]
