Hard way: Right Click on My Computer. Go to Hardware Tab. Go to Device Manager. Go to Sounds And Devices..See if there is a sound card listed there.

Easy Way

1) Is there a speaker icon on your taskbar?
2) Look behind your PC for three holes coloured, green, pink and blue..!!

Look in the Device Manager:
(Windows 95/98/Me)
You can open Device Manager by double-clicking on the System icon in Control Panel, and choosing the Device Manager tab. It is also accessible by right-clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties, and selecting the Device Manager tab

(Windows 2000/XP)
* You can open Device Manager by double-clicking on the System icon in Control Panel, choosing the Hardware tab, and clicking Device Manager.

* Fortunately, Device Manager can be more easily run by launching devmgmt.msc - just create a shortcut to the file (as described above), and launch it at any time.

Go down to Sound, Video and Game Controllers

You should see your sound card listed there

if your pc has a speaker jack input (not on your CD/DVD drive) it has!

to verify if it is installed:
right-click on my computer, click on properties
on the hardware tab, click on device manager
there you will see all available harware, if your "Sound, Video, ...."
has a "?" maked on it, you may need to find your device driver
