Political powerlessness. People are unhappy with the way things are, but they don't have the legal power to do anything about it--especially when powerful nations like the United States are involved--so they resort to illegal methods. Unfortunately, violent attacks only incite violent retaliations, and the messages that terrorists try to send are lost, which leads to more acts of terrorism and more retaliation.
It's a vicious cycle of ignorance: the terrorists don't realize how ineffective these methods are, and the retaliators don't recognize the causes and reasons of terrorism.

Hopelessness. Brainwashing. Acting without thinking.
There's a book, "I Left Islam." (Sorry, not sure the exact title) The young author actually fulfilled some bombing missions, but realized he didn't feel happy about hurting the people. But, he had been trained for that from earliest childhood, as were all his friends. When he went to the U.S., he looked in a Christian hymnal for the opposition's war songs and found a lot of sweet stuff that actually seemed a lot happier and more appealing. Until then, He Never Knew Any Better!

The old name for terrorism was "guerilla warfare". It's when one faction is not strong enough to go up against it's foe(s) in a head-on fight and elects, instead, to wage war in an "unconventional"manner. Such warfare - you can call it terrorism if you choose - has gone on since before humankind learned to keep written records. It will continue as long as humans fail to learn to get along. Hint: don't hold your breath waiting for that miracle!

the most influential thing that leads to terrorism, i would say social gap.. like the social gap from the north-south countries. it would be hard when a superpower country force a weaker country to do what the superpower country wants but the weaker country have no bargaining position to say no finally the only way to prove their resistance (and also their existence) is by doing some action, terrorism for one example.

Injustice is the root of all bad human responses. If we could attain justice, we wouldnt have terrorism. Granted that there are some nuts out there who actually thrive in violent environments, but the majority just goes along for the ride. And if you think about it, it all springs out of injustice.

It is the last act of desperation, when men think thier voice in no longer being
heard. Allowing communication to break down is a foolish error!

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. In the Revolution Britain saw George Washington as a terrorist.
