the police have been informed i am just trying to help her out she was scammed £350!!

You really can't find out for sure.
Scammers can scam their return address. Have your friend report the occurance to his/her ISP they can find out; if the scam is serious enough. If it is very serious also report the ocurrance to the police.

Look at the bottom of the e-mail, the address of the sender is there.
