She needs strategies. While she's reading, teach her strategies to figure out words by asking, "What makes sense?", "What word looks like that? (letters)", "What word makes those sounds". Get yourself a parent or high school volunteer that can listen to her read aloud every single day. Make sure the books are at an appropriate level and send those books home to be read over and over. I like www.readinga-z.com, but there is a fee to join.

Well in second grade children do still have trouble reading .If your not already try using basic books with pictures of activities she may end up looking at the picture and tell you from that what the words say but this is a proven system for very young children as she gets better make the books harder some schools lend them out or you can get them from any library in the childrens section .Spend some time with her at night to do this if you can .Dont put her down if she makes a mistake just praise her point out the mistake and stay with that book a little longer until she gets it right .Also taking to her teacher may help if her teacher is good then she will need to read in class along with others and sometimes this is of great benefit .

I was also concerned about the 'memorizing' effect...but I was assured that its normal, and most kids try to do that. Sounds to me like her eyes are moving too fast for her brain to catch up. She might just be an impatient reader. So have her read slowly, and make her use her finger or a ruler to keep her at a slow, measured pace. Don't fret...she's still really young. But good for you to be concerned and so 'on top of it'!

she can be helped but it's going to be kind of hard, but you have to be very patient with her,you will have to start her off with some flash cards, with letters, syllables, and start with small words like
cat, dog, run. And i pray that in the NAme of Jesus that every
attempt that you make to reach this child works.NO CHILD
SHOULD NEVER BE LEFT BEHIND,AND YOU WILL TRULY BE
BLESSED FOR HELPING HER

read with her. you read a page, then she reads a page. at the end of each chapter, or maybe a group of chapters, pause and talk about what happened.
