I am leaving work, in one week, for my maternity leave.

I like to email all my co-workers, and let them know that I am leavening, and thank them for the experience I had with them for the last few year. But my brain is not working. What should I write? A brief, but really nice email. Help….pleaseeeeeeee

Dear Friends,

These last few years have been wonderful and I have truly enjoyed getting to know all of you. Thank you for everything you have done for me; I looked forward to coming to work to spend the day with all of you!

Now I am setting off on a new journey, as I head home to finish out my pregnancy. I am so excited about the new baby on the way and can't wait to share the news with you all when the time arrives!

Thank you again for being so great, and I will be in touch!

Fondly,

I just want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and friendship over the last years. I have really enjoyed being part of the workforce here, and am pround to have had you as co workers over this time.

I am sad to leave you all, but am looking forward to the new challenges that motherhood will bring me.

Best wishes to you all.

Your company has to offer leave through FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) which is a federal law, but there is no law that mandates that the leave must be paid. You can use accrued time such as vacation and/or sick leave. Some companies offer a paid maternity period, but most dictate using your earned time (also making it paid), but there is nothing stating that the company must "pay" for you to be out for the length of time (up to 12 weeks). Hope that helps!

I wouldn't thank anyone for the past year if you are going to go back after the leave. I personally would think you were not coming back if I got an email like that.

How many co-workers? If it's not that many I would tell them verbally.
