It is a place to meet new friends and reconnect with old friends. If you don't like that then yes it is an internet orgy.

A Many-to-Many relationship doesn't really work in a database schema. Myspace has individual pages (your page for instance) and there is a many-to-one relationship between the people you identify (or that identify you) as a friend. Thus MANY individuals can pick YOU as a friend.

It would be both many to many and many to one, but usually many to many to many to many to many to one.
