Yes, The Dr. will always advise you to practice safe sex. The pill will only protect you from getting pregnant. Using the pill does NOT protect against any STD (Aids, chlamydia,syphlis,Herpes.. and many others) You need a condom to keep from catching one of those.

Using the Pill to regulate your periods is completely different than using it to prevent pregnancy. Using the Pill to regulate your periods means that you need to take a pill every day, but missing one, or taking one later in the day than you usually do isn't that big a deal.
To use the Pill to prevent pregnancy it needs to be taken once a day, EVERY day, at the same time every day. Can you guarantee you are going to do that - every day, and never miss? I don't think so. And even if you did, there is still a chance you could get pregnant (I know a woman who got pregnant twice, while on the Pill, and taking it correctly).
Furthermore, as the first responder stated, the Pill will not protect you from any STD. You need a barrier form of contraception for that - like a condom - and even a condom won't protect you for all STD's, and also won't guarantee you won't get pregnant!
So, if you don't want to get pregnant, then you should either not have sex, or use at least two forms of contraception - like the Pill and a condom.

well if you are having sex with more than one partner or yoru partner is having sex with people other than you then of course your doctor would advise using condoms. the pill only keeps you from getting pregnant and for regulating your cycle. it doesn't protect you from STDs. also for the first month the pill doens't protect you from not getting pregnant it takes at least 30 days to get into your system and start to work.

There are such things as sexually transmitted diseases like HIV, herpes, AIDS, gonorrhea, syphilis. Other than those things I really can't see a good reason to use a rubber.
