It's not true that the Embassy doesn't allow you to come over to apply for your visa. You just have to pick a number and get in line until you're called. I guess you wouldn't like to see somebody jumping ahead of you while you're standing on a line, so why other applicants who follow the rules should put up with you jumping ahead of them? If you only had bothered to check the Embassy website, you would have known that, if you do not want to call the 900 number and pay 2 LE per minute, you can also apply for a visa appointment for free by sending a fax or an e-mail. Every year the Embassy has to deal with tens of thousands of applicants, and can handle only a limited number of applications every day, that's why it had to outsource the pre-screening process to a company who charges money to callers, mostly to pay for the operators' salary. Think about that before you pass judgment on matters about which you know next to nothing.

You don't need a visa if you're staying less than 3 months.

Go to a local head of YOUR country.(In the Uk) Be polite and explain your problem Perhaps they could help you. If not, consider yourself lucky. That's the nature of the French country, so your better off visiting another friendly country. See, you alfready found out what the French are really like, so stay as far away from them as possible, and don't spend your money on French items.
