kept in for blood in urine and concussion as well as lot of cuts and bruses mainly to my back
admitted to the old manor hospital a&e Nuneaton warwickshire nr coventry (old cos its now closed) hospital was very old and seemed to consist of 2 wards childrens (too old for) adults so admitted to mixed adults ward
didnt care very scared, upset and wanted to go home slept fitfully through the night discarged 10 am next day after they had moved every single item in there and cleaned it, wonder if they still do that or just clean round it. they wouldnt even let me go to the bathroom them made me use a bed pan i tell you it would have hurt less to walt to the loo then use that thing they are really not designed to be used laying down
now 30ish still nuneaton taxi driver
would rather be on a female ward cos men snore lots and i am a very light sleeper but would discharge myself at earlist oppertunity because of mrsa and things
BTW have been treated in out patients this year, recovery was a mixed ward but i react badly to the injections they give you to put you to sleep i wake up panicing and crying and sick so they just left me to sleep it of and i was so doped up i didnt care i just wanted my hubby and to go home
hope it helps

Most mixed sex wards are divided into bays, and each bay has only a single sex in it. There are a few hospitals where they have admission wards which may have both sexes in the same area, but they are rare and being phased out in the UK, they were only in force for a limited time until the hospital could upgrade a ward to bays. Given this scenario I wouldn't have any problem, and have been on a mixed sex ward in these circumstances myself. I found no problems, and when patients were able to walk around they could visit a communal lounge, and visit other patients on the ward, even in the bays for the other sexes.

Horrible. Being ill is uncomfortable enough. Being nursed behind some flimsy curtain is bad enough where anyone can look in through gaps in th curtains, but then to have the additional embarrassment/indignity of male patients being able to look in is awful. I have worked in hospital on various wards.

I work in a high dependency unit where there are 8 beds and whoever gets there first gets the bed, male or female. Most people are just glad to be getting looked after and we never compromise their dignity or privacy.
Why do you want my name and age you weirdo.

Dave - 33 - aerospace engineer - not bothered in the slightest, would be without curtains though! This sort of thing seems to bother women more (generally! before everyone screams that i am a sexist), not all though. It lies with having single sex swimming sessions, gym sessions and sauna sessions that blokes don't get.

Tildypops. Aged 44. it's not as bad as some might first think, because you normally find the MEN at one end of the ward, & WOMEN at the other end.

When Britain becomes an Islamic country hopefully we will stop this mixed sex ward rubbish. So don't worry, just hand on in there.
