Just wondering what peoples opinions are on Renaissance art? Anyone like it? Do you think people can still relate to it now or does it seem too 'high art' like? I think its become more widespread and available to more people through reproductions(posters, bags etc) but does that immunise people against it?

Thank goodness for renaissance artists - they broke the mold and taught other artists (as well as viewers) how to SEE.

I know a few artists who paint in this traditional style (heavy lighting, muted tones) and sell very well. It's all in the technique, and the viewer/buyer has to have some appreciation for it, so there is a limited but educated market for it.

The resurgence of renaissance reproductions has just opened that market to more people. That's a good thing.

Allot of it was the beginning of assembly line art.. Michelangelo didn't paint all of hi paintings, had apprentices do it. I love the feel and hope inspired by renaissance art. The act of trying to move the human mind farther with images, telling stories with just pictures. Immunizing people against it? allot of people today don't even know it exists... so it is new to them. And for us who do it is a breath of fresh air, and a passing hope that more civil and prosperous ways of thinking may lay ahead of us in our future.

I think it is still amazing, especially taken in context.

I mean, just look at all those rubbish medieval paintings that came before where the soldiers were as tall as the castles.
