I personally & from expierence in tennis, i think next year would be her last in the top 10. Her huge body & hight of 6 3" had allready started to show on her mobility & speed running the ball down as she used to. After one long point, she could hardly breathe. Beside she is a one minded tennis player & has no other weapons ,but to hit hard, which now all the other players are catching up to her one minded game. I think she is a Star that suddenly apears bright & big & also suddenly dies. Next year she might survive to stay in the top 10, but in 2008, she will probably be in the 20 or 30s. New smart & atheletic players are coming into the game, next year. It will be interesting to watch.

I do agree with u ! I think most of them will move up, except the Russian girls. Sharapova will drop 4 to 6 places & by next year, no one will even remember her cuz she will be out of tennis or in the 20 to 30s rank.

I think she will be there for a while, but I do agree she could be injury prone due to her body type (tall). I think knee problems could end up being her downfall, but not for a while. I honestly don't see her dropping from the top 10 any time soon.
I am not sure who exactly is "catching up to her game" though as her record over the last three months is 19-2 with a US Open title. Your assessment sounds more like wishful thinking than actual facts. Her game is vulnerable on clay though, so I don't ever see her winning the french, but I see her winning at least 3-4 Wimbledons. What she lacks in tennis skill, no one on tour comes close to matching her intensity and will to win, and that can not be discounted. Heck, Henin could have used some of that intestinal fortitude during all the major finals this year, especially the Australian. Maria is one of my favorites because of the intensity, but I also enjoy Clijsters and Hingis too.

I personally think that if she can consistently serve aswell as she did during the us open, she'll stay up there in the top10. Unfortunately for her though, I think she's quite injury-prone with her build and that might just remove her from the top 10.
As ro everyone forgetting about her, as suggested by some answerers... As she has already won 2 grand slam titles, I reckon she could lose every match she plays for the next year and will still always be remembered... Once you've won a grand slam, you're made.
And how long has it been since Kournikova was ranked in the top10... And nobody's forgotten her... Endorsements and sponsors tend to keep players on the map... whether they've won a title or not...

Well, I have always thought that her game is like Lindsay's - big serve, hard flat shots, high risk with little room for errors. And Lindsay has been top ten for more than a decade, with the exception of a couple years she was out due to injury. Shrarpova, on the other hand, moves better than Lindsay, competes better (Lindsay should easily have a half dozen slams), and is in better physical condition. She can easily be a top ten, multiple slam winner for 5-10 more years...provided she doesn't lose interest in the game.

I don`t see miss Sharapova slowing down , In fact i think she is one of the quickest with her serving and mobility than ever , and also just look @ some of the nfl football players that weigh`n somewhere around 290 -- 325 lbs some can run the 40 in less than 5 seconds but thats just my unoffical opinion thats all , I think miss Sharapova will be around for a long time , I have seen her several times and also she dedicates a lot`s of time running and keeping those ankles strong , we all need to be fanatics about exercise and eating right , Also i think she is real cute and with a good figure, And that lets me know that she is smart, not just with her figure but i was thinking about her dedicated workouts,

I disagree with you about her mobility she has improved alot this year and she has beaten Henin, Clijsters and Mauresmo already. She is only 19 and she is not 6'3" she's actually 6'2" and she's not the tallest player, Davenport is even taller than her. Also Davenport lasted more than a decade in the game and playing similar game with Maria. The upcoming players you are talking about are even slower than Sharapova (take Vaidisova and Ivanovic for example). Her serve is such a weapon when it's on it can hit anyone off the court even Justine. Plus she's not the only one prone to injuries I think Justine has had more injuries than her mainly because she is still very young.

You make good points. I think as long as she is healthy she will stay in the top ten however, whether it is one year or 5. She just strikes the ball so well and hits so hard. The top ten will stay withen her grasp as long as she can make 7 tournaments a year.

I think Sharapova will last until about late 20's because now-a-days even little girls and boys are working their butts off to become the best athlete and they burn themselves out and get injuries like she will probably get when shes around her mid 20's
