You could always bake some cookies and take them to a local nursing home. Wear a Santa hat and go spend a little time with some other people who may very well be alone that evening, too. If you call the nursing home ahead of time, they will let you know if they have a Christmas program or something that you can participate in.
My grandmother was in a nursing home for a while before she passed away, and every holiday it was heartbreaking to see how many elderly people were alone. They have some great stories to share, and could probably use a good shot of Christmas spirit as well!

There are so many organizations that need help during Christmas, Maybe there is a food kitchen you could help out in on Christmas eve. It is such an amazing feeling helping others. Make sure you are some place where you have contact with others. And don't take a volunteer job like licking envelopes to mail.

Christmas eve is on Sunday this year, as you probably already know. Go to a church and become a part of a serving ministry that day. Deliver Christmas dinners or gifts to underprivileged families.
Oh, and come to this section of YA. We will all be in and out of here all day, continuing the eternal (for a while yet) discussion!
Merry Christmas.

I think the idea of visiting a nursing home is wonderful. You can take cookies, read to people, help them write letters, or just let them talk about their lives, etc. Afterwards, go home and watch "A Christmas Carol" because it is the best!!! Have a happy Christmas. Oh, you could also go to a midnight Christmas service at a local church - lots of times they use candle light.

Put on a Christmas movie or music and curl up with a cup of coffee and be glad! I have to go a million places on Christmas Eve and Xmas Day and it gets exhausting!

Salvation Army, Churches, Soup Kitchens, Marine Corps League, Soup Kitchens, all might be options for helping others. once these are done, try going to a late or Midnight Church Service to remember " the reason for the season " then go home, take a hot shower get in your " pj's " settle in with hot chocolate, tea, or coffee and put on Christmas music or a Christmas Show on television. then write letters of thanks and count your blessings.

You mean by yourself with no family friends or mate, or just without a mate? Being "alone" could mean many things.
I'm assuming you mean away from everyone, literally by yourself. Don't try to ignore Xmas Eve. That will make it worse I think. Instead, think of certain things that has become tradition with you.
For instance, I moved away years ago and on Xmas, I woke up and made a mimosa (champagne with orange juice). Mimosas are a tradition with my family on Xmas morning. And it made me realize that they were all home making mimosas too. Do what you can to keep traditions alive, no matter how small or silly they sound.

Go out and buy some ribbons and bows or make your own then drive around different neighborhoods and check out all the houses that are decorated and give awards for the best decorated and leave them on the mailboxs or other places where it can be found easily with note from Santa saying you have the nicest decorations etc.
