The word Amen is a declaration of affirmation found in the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, and in the Qur'an. It has always been in use within Judaism and Islam. It has been generally adopted in Christian worship as a concluding formula for prayers and hymns. In Islam, it is the standard ending to suras. Common English translations of the word amen include: "Verily", "Truly", "So be it", and "Let it be". Although not widley used in church "You Rock" seems an apt concluding formula in the 21st century.

I tend to stick to Amen, but then again I've learned the ceremony by rote so I'm usually in a trance by then.

You say whatever you wanna say. You can stick with "Amen" if you like, but then it wouldn't be you. At least "you rock, father" let him know that you were actually listening and were moved. I wouldn't worry about it.

He was probably hard of hearing & a bit paranoid and thought you said SUCK instead of rock - - - next time give an enthusiastic YAY-MEN and then say YOU and clearly enuciate ROCK, pause, Father.... But your actions show a proper show of enthusiasm & awe.
Peace...

Yes, definitely a weird response. He knew you slept through it all and woke up not knowing where you were. For all you knew he was talking all the time about eternal fires and the bad place called hell.
