I'm gay and I've never understood this either.
I'd much rather see Kenny Chesney than some Diva.

cos they are strong characters who have come through difficult personal circumstances, and come out the other end of it still intact.
happens to be that for both of these ones... it was drug addiction.
although not so sure Liz Taylor is much of a gay icon. Maybe a faded iconette.

Anybody that has a noticeable voice and noticable waredrobe; They can be used an a drag act and everyone will know who they are (ex. Cher & Madonna).

Maybe because they both sort of look like men. THey have alot of male qualitites in them.....Yuckkkkk!!...Need to be more feminine
