I mean that say a player caused a penalty play, and while he is still in the box, another player from the same team for example hooks another guy and he goes into the penalty box as well etc. How many players have been in the box at one time? Would play have to be stopped, say if it became something like 5 against the goal tender?

You'll never have a 5 on goalie. You can only have two players from each team (for a total of four players) in the box at any given time. If more penalties are called they are delayed until someone from that team is back on the ice.

ellie ur wrong you can have many players in the box at 1 time if the box were to get to full they send players to the dressing room. If there are lets say 5 penalty's at the same time for 1 team it would result in a 6 min 5-3

It will never be 5 on a goalie it will be a long 5-3

You can have more than two in a box, but a team will never be shorthanded more than two at a time. If there are more than two in a box at a time Penalties will only count down for two of them, regardless the penatalized players whose penalty is not being counted yet can not play for his team. There was a game between Ottawa and Philly that recently set the record for most penalty minutes in a game and it was 400+.

Based on typical play the first answer is right but if there is a brawl there is no limit to (well I guess the whole team could be a limit) to the amount of players in the sin bin. I've seen more than could be seated in there at one time. Can't remember the numbers though.
