Some people pay almost 1,000 dollars for them and only wear them once. What's the point of paying so much for them?

While I agree that $1,000 is pricey for a class ring, you have to consider what materials the rings are made out of. Some can be bought in 18K gold, with real gemstones, diamond accents, and elaborate engravings. The more you add, the more expensive it gets, like the side stamps to represent what sports and clubs you belonged to in school, having your name put in the ring, diamond accents instead of cz, real gold instead of another (cheaper) metal, etc...

Most people who buy the expensive rings wear more than once. They put them on when they get them, and wear them everyday for years to come. It's a precious keepsake that can't be measured in dollars since it represents their years and their life in high school (or college.)

If you don't want to spend that much for a class ring, then don't. There are many styles and options that you can choose to stay in your price range. A simple class ring can start under $100, so it's not like you can't find one that you like for much less than that $1,000 ring.

A thousand seems a little on the high side, I agree.

But there Must be people willing to pay that amount, or the ring companies couldn't sell any and would go out of business.

We often make the mistake of assuming that our experiences and opinions are universal, when in reality there is a wide range of income levels and values that might prompt someone to want to buy something you would think is extravagant.

Would you want to wear a ring that didn't require an investment of resources to acquire? Of course not. That's why they reccommend spending 3 months salary on an engagement ring.

There isn't a point; it's a rip off. The only time I'd consider buying one would be when graduating college since it's pretty momentous--and even then I wouldnt dream of dropping a grand on it.

Things you only purchase once or once in a while tend to be more expensive.
