1) DO NOT burn them. Very bad. It can get in your throat and you can get poison ivy on your throat!
2) Wait till it rains, a heavy one is good or water the ivy with lots of water and let it sit for an hour then come back water it again. Heavy rain and/or watering the area will loosen the soil and make it easier to get rid of the wretched ivy.
3) Get gloves, many trash bags, a painter's mask and full length old clothes with socks and shoes. Put on the clothes, gloves, and mask.
4) Take the bag and turn it inside out.
5) Put your hand with gloves into the trash bag and reach for the base of the ivy and pull the roots out. Make sure the vine do not touch your skin. Its the oil in the vine that causes the irritation and inflammation.
6) Work your way up the vine and not down it. You have to get the roots or else you will find yourself doing this again.
7) Repeat until bag is full. Then immediately turn the bag right side in and tie it securely.
8) After all the vine are gone. Take the trash bags and get ride of it. Carefully take off the gloves and throw that in the trash too. Don't let your fair skin touch it.
9) Take your clothes including socks and shoes and wash it in COLD water.
10) Take a shower in COLD water with plenty of soap.
After that inspect the area from time to time and use round up or some sort of weed spray.
It is a lot of work but you can win over the vine.
If you don't want to fight the battle call a landscaping company but they will just get rid of the vine and what you can see so you can call them again next year.

Hello,
YES! I had the same problem some years ago. Ivy is INCREDIBLY strong stuff & its the devils own too get rid of, it grows back every time you cut it back. It gets its tenticles & roots every where in the soil.
**The ONLY way to get rid of Ivy is to quite literally ripp it up, rip it out from the roots or root level. Even then it can still grow back but it will certain stop most of it in its tracks.

Roundup worked a treat for me!
Spray as many leaves as possible.Be careful not to do this on a windy day.It will damage other plants.Works its way back to the roots,so leave alone for a few weeks. When the ivy wilts cut as low as possible to the ground!
No more ivy!

Trim ivy as much as possible, leave till spring until new growth, then spray with glysophate weed killer. May well take several attempts.
