A blue whale can be 98 feet long. I have not been able to find out how tall it can be. It lives in the ocean.
A giraffe can be 16 to 19 feet tall and is the tallest of the land living mammals.
The quiz must have been looking for land living mammals is all I can guess.

No. Based on your further input -- you lose. The natural state of a Blue Whale is horizontal -- not vertical. If you go by size alone (which you're doing) you could say that the Great Wall of China is the tallest structure on earth, because if you stood it on end, it would stretch into outer space. That doesn't work though. And neither do "tall" Blue Whales. Sorry. You lost fair and square.
=============================================
If indeed the question was "largest mammal," (as opposed to "tallest") you were completely hosed. Your answer of 'Blue Whale' is correct.

Yes your right, the Blue Whale is the largest mammal and possibly the largest animal of any kind to have lived on earth. Apparantly a 33-metre long, 190 tonne whale has been seen before.
A giraffe??!! What??! Doesnt even compare, sure they didnt say tallest?

You're completely right.
the giraffe is the tallest LAND mammal. I couldn't say for sure, but I reckon if a giraffe stood by a beached whale, the whale would be taller.

If the question was "largest" them blue whale gets in on volume and mass.
If the question was "tallest" then its giraffe.

You can't settle an argument until you define your terms. What does "biggest" mean? Heaviest? Blue Whale, of course! Longest? Blue Whale again! Tallest? Giraffe. Usually, "biggest", if undefined, means "heaviest". But not always. The "biggest" professional football player probably means "heaviest"; but the "biggest" professional basketball player probably means "tallest".

I agree with you! The world's tallest animal is the giraffe. the worlds largest animal is the blue whale. Whoever wroter the question must have met the world's tallest animal. or it was a miss print.

Well, i certianly know that the blue whale is the largest Mammal, but prehaps they were refering to the tallest LAND mammal. I that was the case, it is easy to see how the question was misleading.
By the way, you never said weather you won or lost.
